The Association originated as a group of concerned educators getting together and largely still is. Its members feature some wellknown local educator luminaries. The welcome mat is now out though for all those interested in the work of the Association to come out to their AGM. The Association is a great example of collaboration between educators from both English School Boards in Ottawa. I've conferred with them and they are very clear that they want all interested persons and not simply educators to attend if they are interested. This year they try to formalize their mission statement and they have an exciting project they want to start up this year (see below). Hope to see you there. The 2008-2009 session of the Inner City Education Association is about to get underway. With renewed energy, commitment and leadership we are eager to begin the year’s work. Our meetings will be held on the last Monday of each month (there will be no scheduled meeting in December) from 4:30 to 6:00 pm, at St. Nicholas Adult High School - 893 Admiral Ave. Ottawa, ON.

In order to bring focus and vision to our association we are proposing the following projects for the year:

• Revision of the Charter including the addition of a mission statement to better guide us in our work.
• The first phase of an Action-Research Project that will focus on adult learners and the barriers they face in education.

Providing sufficient support:

• The development of a website that will serve as a public forum for inner-city education in Ottawa as well as an on-line archive for the work that we do.
• A renewed format of our brochure outlining our purpose and the work that we do.

It will take the cooperation of several people to realize the goals for this year. It is our intention to commence work on the action research project this fall, to begin holding focus groups after the winter break and then to write a report which will summarize our findings by May 2009.

Please join us on Monday September 29th at 4:30 pm at St. Nicolas Adult High School. If you cannot make it but know someone who would be interested please forward this message to them. All are welcome to attend. Input from a diverse group of educators is essential for the success of the association.
